The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, launched in 1985, is an iconic off-road vehicle based on the Suzuki Jimny. Renowned for its ruggedness and reliability, the Gypsy became the vehicle of choice for the Indian armed forces, police, and adventure enthusiasts. It featured a 1.3-liter petrol engine with selectable four-wheel drive, ensuring excellent off-road capabilities. The Gypsy's lightweight design, high ground clearance, and simple mechanics made it ideal for challenging terrains. Available in soft-top and hard-top variants, it offered versatility for various applications, from military use to rally sports. Although discontinued for civilian use in 2018 due to evolving safety norms, the Gypsy continues to be produced for defense services, cementing its legacy as a dependable workhorse.
