Electric Car Sales July 2026: Tata & Mahindra Lead the EV Market

Electric car retail sales in India crossed 32,928 units in July 2026, up 83.13% year-on-year from 17,981 units in July 2025. It was the strongest July on record for the segment and the second straight month with sales above the 30,000-unit mark, though volumes eased 1.78% from June's record 33,524 units.
Tata Motors stayed on top of the electric car sales chart with 13,678 units, a 103.18% jump over the 6,732 units it sold in July last year. The carmaker also grew 6.85% over June's 12,801 units, keeping its lead intact for another month.

Mahindra held second place with 7,742 units, posting a sharp 126.64% YoY rise from 3,416 units a year earlier. Month-on-month, however, sales dipped 5.37% from 8,181 units in June. JSW MG Motor came in third with 5,689 units, one of the few brands to post a YoY decline, down 3.61% from 5,902 units in July 2025 and 8.03% lower than June's 6,186 units. Maruti Suzuki sold 1,600 electric cars during the month, a 20% drop from June's 2,000 units. VinFast India moved 1,482 units, up a modest 2.35% over June's 1,448. Both brands had no electric car sales on record in July 2025, so year-on-year comparisons don't apply.
