By CarVaidya- 03 Apr 2026
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has
revealed the facelifted GLE in both SUV and coupe-SUV body styles. The 2026
Mercedes GLE introduces revisions to the engine range, chassis systems, and
interior technology across the lineup.
The refreshed 2026 Mercedes GLE model range
includes petrol, plug-in hybrid, and diesel powertrains as well as an updated
AMG GLE 53 variant, which is now more powerful and quicker off the line as well.
2026 Mercedes GLE Facelift - Mechanical Changes
The 2026 GLE lineup includes multiple powertrain
options. The GLE 450 4Matic is powered by a 3.0-litre mild-hybrid
inline-six-cylinder engine with an electric compressor, producing 375bhp and
560Nm of peak torque, aided by an electric motor that adds 23bhp and 205Nm of
torque. The GLE 450 sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds and tops out at
250km/h. There is a new plug-in hybrid 2026 Mercedes GLE 450e 4Matic, and it
too uses a 3.0-litre inline-six engine paired with an electric motor. The
combined output stands at 322bhp and 540Nm. The electric motor adds another 181
bhp and 480 Nm of peak torque. The PHEV GLE 450e sprints from 0-100km/h in just
5.6 seconds and tops out at 240km/h.
There is also a GLE 580 4Matic, which features a
mild hybrid setup paired with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. The V8 kicks out
530bhp and 750Nm of peak torque, while the electric motor adds 23bhp and 205Nm
of torque. The GLE 580 sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and has a top
speed of 250km/h. Diesel variants - the GLE 350d and 450d - retain their
powertrains. However, both engines now feature an electric heating catalyst and
use aluminium construction with steel pistons and specialised cylinder liners.
2026 Mercedes GLE Facelift - AMG GLE 53 Gets Two Hybrid Options
The 2026 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 is now offered in two guises: mild
hybrid and plug-in hybrid. In its mild hybrid guise, the AMG GLE 53
pushes out 442bhp and 600Nm (640Nm with overboost) from its 3.0-litre inline
six engine, while the electric motor adds 23bhp and 205Nm of peak torque. This
allows for a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. The AMG
GLE 53 plug-in hybrid also uses a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine and
an electric motor that combine to push out 577bhp and 750Nm of peak torque. The
AMG GLE Hybrid can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of
250km/h. In pure electric mode, the top speed is limited to 140km/h with the
GLE 53 offering an electric-only range of 88km on a single charge (WLTP).
2026 Mercedes GLE Facelift - Chassis & Suspension
The GLE facelift introduces a cloud-based damper control system that
scans the road ahead and adjusts suspension settings. The optional E-Active
Body Control system can control each wheel individually to manage body
movement. The AMG GLE 53 gets recalibrated air suspension and an optional AMG
Active Ride Control system with electromechanical roll stabilisation. The ESP
system has also been updated to work more closely with the all-wheel-drive
system.
2026 Mercedes GLE Facelift - Design & Feature Updates
The 2026 Mercedes GLE receives revised front and rear styling,
including an updated grille with the three-pointed star pattern. It also gets
new LED headlamps with star-shaped lighting elements and updated LED tail-lamps
with a similar design. New alloy wheel designs and additional paint options are
also available. Mercedes-Benz has also revealed updated AMG versions
alongside the standard GLE. The AMG GLE Coupe features a sloping roofline,
larger air intakes, and AMG-specific styling elements, with the latter two also
featuring on the AMG GLE SUV.
The cabin gets Mercedes-Benz's latest digital
interface, headlined by the MBUX Superscreen that integrates three displays
under a single glass panel. The system supports over-the-air updates and
expanded connectivity functions. Other updates include a revised steering
wheel, new ambient lighting elements, and updated upholstery options. Interior
colour options include Black, Macchiato Beige, and Bahia Brown, along with a new
Beech Brown and Black combination. AMG variants get additional options such as
Tartufo Brown, Carmine Red, and Yacht Blue.
