The 2025 Tata Altroz Facelift has recently been launched in the Indian
market with a new avatar. In the premium hatchback segment, the Altroz Facelift
competes directly with the Hyundai i20. Both cars offer strong competition to
each other in terms of modern design, features, and performance. Let’s find out
which one is better to buy.
Design and Styling
The 2025 Tata Altroz Facelift features a new front grille, twin-pod LED
headlamps, and connected LED tail lamps, giving it a modern design.
Additionally, the flush-type door handles and new 16-inch alloy wheels add to
its premium look. On the other hand, the Hyundai i20 has a sporty and attractive
design, featuring a parametric jewel grille, low roofline, and sharp LED
headlamps.
Engine and Performance
The Tata Altroz is available with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine
(88 PS), a 1.2-liter CNG engine (73.5 PS), and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (90
PS), making it one of the better models in the segment. Transmission options
include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed DCT. The Hyundai i20,
meanwhile, comes with only a 1.2-liter petrol engine (83 PS), paired with
either a 5-speed manual or CVT. The i20’s engine is refined, but the Altroz’s
diesel and CNG powertrains give it an advantage in mileage and variety. The
Altroz CNG offers a mileage of 26.90 km/kg, and the diesel returns 23.60 km/l,
whereas the i20 petrol manages a mileage of around 20–21.5 km/l.
Features
Both hatchbacks come with common features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen,
auto AC, sunroof, and 6 airbags. However, the Altroz offers additional features
like a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, a 10.25-inch digital driver
display, and a wireless charger. On the other hand, the i20 includes a premium
7-speaker Bose sound system, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and premium
seat upholstery. Also, Tata’s iRA connected car technology directly rivals
Hyundai’s BlueLink system.
Safety
The previous-generation Altroz received a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash
tests, whereas the i20 was awarded a 3-star rating. The Altroz’s 360-degree
camera and blind spot monitor give it an edge in terms of safety. Both cars
come with standard safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, and ESP.
Price
The Altroz has an ex-showroom starting price of ₹6.89 lakh, going up to ₹11.49
lakh. In comparison, the Hyundai i20 is priced from ₹7.04 lakh to ₹11.24 lakh
(ex-showroom). The Altroz is more affordable at the base variant level, while
the i20 seems slightly more cost-effective in the top variant.
Which One to Buy?
If you prioritize mileage, the availability of diesel/CNG options, and safety,
then the 2025 Tata Altroz is the better choice. However, if you want a premium
look, a refined engine, and a sportier driving experience, the
Hyundai i20
would be more suitable.
