Several factors fed into the record month of
sales for cars in July. Dealers stocked up heavily ahead of the festive season,
with Onam, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and Diwali all falling between August and
November, prompting automakers to push extra volumes into showrooms early. SUV
demand continued to grow steadily through July, while demand for smaller cars
also picked up meaningfully. New model launches added to the tally, with strong
advance bookings translating into higher dispatches, alongside festive
discounting from some brands. Production at Hyundai and Kia's supplier plants
also normalised after a fire had disrupted output, while last year's GST rate
reforms on vehicles and a favourable market backdrop through the year gave the
industry the boost it needed despite rising manufacturing costs that have seen
prices increasing for multiple brands.
