Grand Vitara Dethroned: SUV Tops Segment with Record Sales

The compact SUV segment is making the most progress in the Indian car market. Offering excellent performance, ample space, and all essential features at affordable prices, these vehicles were purchased extensively last month as well. In this segment, the Hyundai Creta secured the first position, while the performance of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder was also noteworthy. Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta claimed the top spot in the compact SUV segment. In December 2024, a total of 12,608 units were sold, which is 3,365 units more than the 9,243 units sold in the same month of 2023. This marks a significant 36.41% increase in Hyundai Creta's sales.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

In second place on the list is Maruti's Grand Vitara. This hybrid SUV from Maruti gained 7,093 new customers last month, which is 105 units more than the 6,988 units sold in December 2023. This represents a modest 1.50% increase in Grand Vitara's sales.

Tata Curvv

Tata Motors' latest SUV, the Curvv, made a strong impact right after its launch. The ICE and EV models of the Curvv were purchased by a total of 4,994 customers last month. With an excellent sales record, this most affordable coupe SUV in the country surpassed segment competitors like Toyota Hyryder and Kia Seltos.

Toyota Hyryder

Toyota's hybrid car and its derivative, the Grand Vitara, secured the fourth position last month. The company sold a total of 4,770 units of the Hyryder in December 2024. This is 206 units less than the 4,976 units sold in December 2023, reflecting a 4.14% year-on-year decline.

Kia Seltos

The Seltos secured the fifth position in the list of top-5 compact SUVs sold in December 2024. A total of 2,830 units were sold last month. This figure is 7,127 units lower than the 9,957 units sold in December 2023, showing a significant 71.58% drop in sales.
