Honda ZR-V Hybrid First Two Batches Sold Out

Japanese carmaker Honda says the first two India-bound batches of the ZR-V Hybrid have sold out, pushing the company to order a third shipment from Japan. The update comes days after Honda priced the SUV at Rs 47.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
Honda hasn't revealed how many vehicles made up either batch, or how many bookings have come in, or how many units reached customers. Honda has also not confirmed when the third batch will arrive from Japan.
A shipment of a few dozen units and one of several hundred can both be labelled sold out, yet they indicate very different levels of demand for an expensive import. The ZR-V Hybrid arrives in India as a completely built unit, which raises both its price and its commercial risk, so Honda has chosen to bring it in batches, testing demand before committing to another order. Honda has not shared the actual state-wise figures with regards to demand of theZR-V. That omission makes it difficult to judge whether interest is concentrated among a small group of enthusiasts in large cities, or spread widely enough to support regular shipments.
At Rs 47.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, customers are no longer judging the ZR-V only against other Hondas. They are weighing its cabin quality, rear-seat comfort and road presence against vehicles with luxury badges and Honda's reputation for reliability and hybrid engineering cannot fully offset the ambitious pricing. Early buyers who booked before the price reveal likely included brand loyalists seeking an uncommon Japanese hybrid. The most enthusiastic customers have already placed their orders, making the third batch a more accurate gauge of demand, and continued interest once the launch buzz fades would confirm a genuine premium niche for the SUV.

Honda ZR-V Hybrid Engine, Features And Safety

The Honda ZR-V Hybrid uses Honda's 2.0-litre e:HEV strong-hybrid powertrain, pairing an Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors. Combined output stands at 184hp, and 315Nm of torque. In low-speed city driving, the electric motor powers the wheels while the petrol engine generates electricity; at higher speeds, the engine connects more directly to the wheels for greater efficiency. These transitions happen automatically, with no need for the driver to charge the vehicle, and Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 22.79km/l. In terms of features, the Honda ZR-V comes with a nine-inch infotainment system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging and dual-zone climate control. Both front seats get electric adjustment with a memory function for the driver, along with ambient lighting, a powered tailgate and a 360-degree camera, though there is no seat ventilation, no sunroof and no spare wheel on offer. The ZR-V features the Honda Sensing ADAS suite which includes features adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision-mitigation braking, lane-keeping assistance, road-departure mitigation and automatic high beam, alongside eight airbags, front and rear parking sensors, stability control, hill-descent control and tyre-pressure monitoring. The Honda ZR-V has arrived directly into a segment dominated by either larger sized SUVs or Luxury crossovers that carry badges with a stronger appeal to the Indian audience. However, the Honda ZR-V with its hybrid system is a unique offering in a segment that is powered by either turbo-petrol or large diesel engines.
