Skoda-Volkswagen Planning 4 New Cars for India

Skoda-Volkswagen Planning 4 New Cars for India

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India is preparing a fresh product offensive in the Indian market, with four important models planned across the Škoda and Volkswagen brands. The upcoming lineup includes the updated Škoda Slavia, new-generation Škoda Superb, facelifted Volkswagen Virtus and an all-new Volkswagen sub-4-metre compact SUV scheduled for 2027.

The strategy comes as the Volkswagen Group looks to strengthen its presence in India's high-volume SUV and sedan segments while increasing the use of locally developed and manufactured products.

1. New Škoda Slavia

The updated Škoda Slavia was unveiled in August 2026 and is expected to reach customers during the festive season. The facelift brings several exterior and technology changes while retaining the sedan's existing India-focused platform.

Key changes expected

  • Revised LED headlamps and taillamps
  • Sequential turn indicators
  • New alloy wheel designs
  • Updated cabin
  • 10.1-inch infotainment screen
  • AI-powered voice-control system
  • 360-degree camera
  • Updated safety and convenience features

One of the major mechanical changes is the availability of an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox with the 1.0-litre TSI engine. The 1.5-litre TSI continues with the 7-speed DSG transmission, according to reports.

Škoda has also announced a standard 4-year warranty, 4 years of roadside assistance and four labour-free services under its Super Care package.

2. Škoda Superb Returns With Diesel

The fourth-generation Škoda Superb is another major addition to the Indian portfolio. Unlike many recent premium launches that have moved toward petrol and electrification, the India-spec Superb is set to return with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine.

The confirmed specification includes:

  • 2.0-litre TDI diesel
  • 150hp
  • 360Nm
  • 7-speed DSG automatic
  • Laurin & Klement specification

Škoda says deliveries are scheduled to begin toward the end of Q2 2027, with expressions of interest already opened.

The Superb will therefore continue to serve buyers looking for a larger executive sedan with a diesel powertrain and premium equipment.

3. Volkswagen Virtus Facelift

Volkswagen is also preparing a facelift for the Virtus sedan. Test vehicles have been spotted in India, indicating that development and validation work is underway. The updated Virtus is expected to receive changes to its front and rear styling, including revised lighting and bumpers. The cabin could also receive additional technology and convenience features.mThe existing 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines are expected to continue. Reports also indicate that the smaller engine could be paired with an 8-speed automatic, although Volkswagen has not officially confirmed all specifications. The Virtus facelift will help Volkswagen keep its sedan offering competitive as buyers increasingly shift toward SUVs.

4. New Volkswagen Sub-4-Metre SUV

The biggest strategic announcement is Volkswagen's upcoming sub-4-metre compact SUV, which is scheduled to launch in India in 2027.

Volkswagen has officially confirmed that the SUV will be:

  • Developed specifically for India
  • Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform
  • Locally manufactured
  • Designed with high localisation
  • Focused on safety and low ownership costs
  • Positioned in India's largest passenger-vehicle segment

The MQB-A0-IN architecture already underpins Volkswagen and Škoda models developed for India. The new Volkswagen SUV will share its underlying architecture with the group's India-focused products, but Volkswagen says it will have its own design and brand identity.

The company has not yet revealed the name, engine specifications or pricing of the new SUV. A 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine is being discussed in reports as a possible powertrain, but this should be treated as unconfirmed until Volkswagen announces the specifications.

Why the New Compact SUV Is Important

The sub-4-metre SUV segment is particularly important because it represents a large portion of India's passenger-vehicle market. Volkswagen itself has highlighted the segment's significant contribution to overall volumes. The upcoming model will allow Volkswagen to compete more directly in a space occupied by products such as the Škoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Mahindra XUV 3XO. It also represents a move toward greater localisation, which can help manufacturers control production costs and develop products specifically for Indian requirements.

This four-model plan forms part of a much larger product push. Earlier in 2026, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India said it was targeting 18-19 product interventions across its group brands, including new models, updates, locally manufactured products and imports. Volkswagen alone had confirmed at least four product actions for 2026.

Volkswagen Group's Larger India Strategy

The new launches also come against the backdrop of a broader attempt to increase Volkswagen Group's competitiveness in India. Volkswagen has already confirmed that the new compact SUV will be locally manufactured on the MQB-A0-IN platform. The company describes India not only as a sales market but also as an important manufacturing and development base.

Škoda is simultaneously expanding its portfolio with products such as the updated Slavia, Superb and upcoming electric offerings. The company had previously indicated that it was evaluating an India electric-car launch around 2027-28, subject to developing a localised supplier base.

What Indian Buyers Can Expect

The upcoming portfolio gives buyers more choices across different price and body-style categories. The Slavia and Virtus will continue serving the sedan market, while the Superb targets the premium executive segment. The new Volkswagen compact SUV will take the group into one of India's highest-volume categories.

The most important launch for Volkswagen's volume strategy is likely to be the new sub-4-metre SUV because it is being developed specifically for India and will be locally manufactured. However, its final engine, features, price and official name are still awaited.

In short, Škoda and Volkswagen are preparing a significant product expansion for India, combining updated sedans, a premium diesel executive car and a new locally built compact SUV. The 2026-27 period could therefore bring a substantial reshaping of both brands' Indian line-ups.
