Tata Sierra vs Tata Safari: Tata Motors relaunched the iconic
Tata Sierra in 2025, which is now a modern compact SUV competing with cars like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. At the same time, it will also compete with Tata’s own existing SUV — the Tata Safari. So, let’s understand these two 7-seater SUVs…
Design
The Sierra gets a retro-modern design with a boxy shape, flat bonnet, full-width LED light bar, slim LED headlamps, flush door handles, and 19-inch alloy wheels. It reminds you of the classic Sierra but with a contemporary look. The Safari looks bolder and more rugged. It comes with an angular front, vertical LED headlamps, a large grille, and commanding road presence. The Safari is longer (4668 mm) and taller, while the Sierra is more compact (4340 mm) and city-friendly.
Interior
The Sierra’s cabin is premium and tech-heavy, offering a triple 12.3-inch screen setup (segment-first), a panoramic sunroof (one of the biggest), ventilated seats, dual-zone AC, and a spacious 5-seater layout. Meanwhile, the Safari delivers a more luxurious feel. It has a larger cabin, 6/7-seat options, ventilated front and rear seats, 12.3-inch infotainment, a panoramic sunroof, and third-row comfort (best suited for kids). The Safari offers more space and a premium touch.
Features
Both are feature-loaded. Sierra offers 12-speaker JBL audio, 5G connectivity, AR-HUD, wireless charger, 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS. Safari also gets ADAS, connected tech, voice assist, terrain modes, and a gesture-controlled tailgate. The Sierra is more tech-forward, while the Safari focuses on practical family-oriented features.
Safety
Both SUVs offer 5-star safety. The Sierra comes with 6 airbags as standard, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, ESP, and hill-hold control. The Safari also offers 6–7 airbags, ADAS, Bharat-NCAP 5-star rating, and a strong build, delivering top-class safety.
Engine and Mileage
The Sierra offers three engine options —
- 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol (106 hp)
- 1.5L turbo-petrol (160 hp)
- 1.5L diesel (118 hp)
It also gets manual and automatic transmission options, and delivers around 18–20 kmpl mileage. The Safari gets a more powerful 2.0L diesel engine (170 hp, 350 Nm) with MT/AT options, and offers around 14–16 kmpl mileage. The Safari is better for highway performance, while the Sierra feels suitable fo
r city driving and fuel efficiency.
