By CarVaidyaVolkswagen has
revealed the Volkswagen ID. GTI globally, reviving the iconic GTI badge in an
all-electric form. This new performance-focused hatchback combines
class-leading power, sharp styling, and advanced technology, bringing the
legendary GTI driving experience into the EV era.
The GTI nameplate returns with the
production-spec ID. GTI, which was first previewed as a concept in 2023. With
this model, Volkswagen aims to deliver the same fun-to-drive character and
sporty appeal that have made GTI models popular among enthusiasts for decades.
The production-spec
Volkswagen ID. GTI features signature red accents across the body, along with
sleek LED headlamps and a full-width illuminated light bar positioned below
them, giving the car a distinctive presence at night. To enhance its sporty
character, the hatchback also gets black body cladding, specially designed
19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a prominent roof spoiler. Other styling
highlights include a contrasting dual-tone roof, blacked-out ORVMs and bumpers,
and connected LED tail lamps that enhance its modern appearance.
The Volkswagen ID. GTI
is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. It produces
223 hp and 290 Nm of torque, delivering strong performance through a
front-wheel-drive layout. Power comes from a 52 kWh battery pack, which offers
a claimed driving range of up to 424 km on a full charge. The hatchback also
supports DC fast charging up to 105 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10
to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.
For safety, the car is equipped with IQ Matrix
LED headlamps for enhanced nighttime visibility. It also features advanced
driver assistance systems (ADAS) with functions such as lane keeping assist,
park assist, adaptive sport suspension, all-wheel disc brakes, and multiple
airbags. Passenger comfort is equally impressive, with features including a
panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with massage and
ventilation functions, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and
vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability to power external devices.
The interior of the Volkswagen ID. GTI offers
a premium and futuristic cabin. It includes a 10.35-inch digital instrument
cluster with a retro-inspired display theme reminiscent of classic GTI models
from the 1980s. A large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system controls most
vehicle functions and is complemented by neatly integrated air vents and a
clean dashboard design.
Despite its compact
dimensions, the Volkswagen ID. GTI offers excellent cabin space and practical
storage solutions, making it well-suited for everyday use. Its efficient
battery and lightweight platform help maximize both range and performance. Our
Thoughts Built on the advanced MEB+ platform, the Volkswagen ID. GTI strikes an
impressive balance between efficiency and driving excitement. For enthusiasts
seeking an electric hatchback that carries the legendary GTI badge, this model
promises to be one of the most compelling options in the compact EV segment.
Sales in Europe are expected to begin very soon.
