MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Launches at ₹25.70 Lakh
By CarVaidyaJSW MG Motor India has launched the new MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV at an introductory price of ₹25.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The plug-in hybrid SUV is positioned as a practical alternative to conventional petrol and diesel SUVs, combining a petrol engine with a sizeable battery pack and electric motor.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is offered exclusively as a seven-seater and sits above the Tomahawk EV in terms of pricing. The PHEV range starts with the Exclusive variant at around ₹25.70 lakh and goes up to approximately ₹27.80 lakh for the Essence variant.
The new MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack and electric motor. The petrol engine produces 102hp and 125Nm, while the combined system output is rated at around 201hp and 237Nm.
One of its biggest highlights is its claimed driving range. MG says the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can deliver more than 1,100km of combined range, while the SUV can cover over 115km in pure-electric mode. This makes it possible for owners to complete most daily city commutes using electric power while retaining petrol power for longer journeys.
The PHEV technology allows the SUV to operate in different modes depending on driving conditions. These include Pure EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Direct modes. The system can therefore prioritise electric driving for urban use or combine petrol and electric power when additional range and performance are required.
The PHEV supports AC charging at up to 3.3kW and also supports 25kW DC fast charging. MG says the standard charger and installation are included with the vehicle.
The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with a technology-focused cabin. Key highlights include a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, connected-car technology, premium interiors and advanced driver assistance features.
Safety equipment includes Level 2 ADAS, while the SUV also gets Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality. The combination of ADAS, connected technology and electrified powertrain gives the Tomahawk PHEV a strong technology advantage in its segment.
| Variant | Ex-showroom Price |
|---|---|
| Hector Tomahawk PHEV Exclusive | ₹25.70 lakh* |
| Hector Tomahawk PHEV Essence | ₹27.80 lakh* |
*Prices are introductory/ex-showroom and may vary slightly depending on the applicable pricing structure.
MG is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. Under this model, the upfront price can fall to around ₹21.79 lakh, with a battery rental charge of approximately ₹3.20 per km.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV stands out because it attempts to combine the advantages of an EV and a conventional SUV. Owners can use electric power for shorter daily trips and rely on the petrol engine for long-distance travel without depending entirely on charging infrastructure.
The PHEV also arrives at a time when Indian buyers are increasingly looking beyond traditional petrol and diesel SUVs. With seven seats, more than 115km of claimed EV range and a combined range of over 1,100km, the Tomahawk PHEV could appeal to buyers who want electrified driving without the range anxiety associated with a pure EV.
