Range Rover Sport EV Prototype Debuts at Goodwood

The upcoming addition of the all-electric version of the Range Rover Sport SUV means that the sporty suv will be offered with five-powertrain options with the EV joining the mild-hybrid V8 petrol, a six-cylinder petrol, a diesel and a plug-in hybrid.
The all-electric Range Rover Sport shares its MLA Flex platform, twin-motor setup and 118.5kWh battery with the larger Range Rover Electric. Full technical details and pricing are scheduled for release later this year, ahead of the Range Rover Sport Electric's launch.

Range Rover Sport Electric: Powertrain and Battery

The dual-motor setup of the Range Rover Sport Electric drives all four wheels, with a lower-output version producing 444bhp and a higher-output version producing up to 543bhp according to Autocar UK. Peak torque stands at 850Nm (627lb-ft) across both versions. The Range Rover Sport Electric's 118.5kWh battery sits between the axles, and the SUV uses an 800-volt electrical architecture that should allow for rapid DC charging, though Land Rover has not confirmed an exact charging rate. Thanks to the battery pack setup the center of gravity drops by around 73mm compared to the combustion-engined Range Rover Sport.

Range Rover Sport Electric: Design & Features

The Range Rover Sport Electric carries over the current ICE model's body virtually unchanged, with a closed-off front grille and the removal of exhaust tips marking the major visible differences. The Wheel center caps carry a discreet 'EV' marking to distinguish prototypes from combustion versions. The cabin layout of the Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to mirror that of the existing Range Rover Sport, featuring a 13.1-inch central touchscreen and a 13.7-inch driver display with EV-specific screens layered in.

Paddle shifters as seen on EVs from other brands, that help change the regen levels are not present behind from the steering wheel of the Range Rover Sport Electric. The rotary drive selector carries over unchanged from the ICE model, though the 'S' position, previously marked 'Sport' on combustion versions, now stands for 'Single-Pedal Drive' mode according to Top Gear UK.
After its launch in its home market of the UK, the Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to arrive in India early next year. We expect Land Rover to slap a starting price of around Rs 1.9 crore (ex-showroom) on the Range Rover Sport Electric. The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to compete against the Porsche Cayenne Electric and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV in the large luxury electric SUV segment, both in India and international markets.
