Despite the SUV craze, these hatchbacks continue to rule the Indian market due to their low prices, higher mileage, and advanced features. Some of them outsell even popular SUVs. Let’s take a look at the top 5 best-selling hatchbacks in FY 2025 (from April 2024 to March 2025).
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
Known for its tall-boy design, budget-friendly pricing, and excellent mileage, the Wagon R was the top-selling car in FY25. A total of 1,98,451 units were sold during this period, making it the best-selling hatchback in India.
The Wagon R was recently updated with 6 airbags as standard, an upgrade from the earlier dual front airbags. In the Indian market, it is priced from ₹5.65 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant, going up to ₹7.35 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant. It is available in four main variants – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+.
In terms of features, the Wagon R offers a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 4-speaker music system, and steering-mounted audio controls, among others.
Regarding safety, along with 6 airbags, the Wagon R also comes equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), rear parking sensors, hill hold assist, and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).
The Wagon R has two petrol engines and one CNG powertrain option. It claims a mileage of 23.56 kmpl with petrol and 34.05 km/kg with CNG.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Maruti Suzuki Swift was purchased by a total of 1,79,641 new customers in FY 2025, earning it the second spot on the list of best-selling hatchbacks in India.
In India, the Swift is priced starting at ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to ₹9.64 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant.
Talking about features, all variants of the Swift now come with 6 airbags as standard. It also offers features like a 9-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, Arkamys-tuned sound system, semi-digital instrument cluster, and auto climate control, making it a well-equipped hatchback for modern buyers.
The Swift is powered by a new Z-series 1.2-litre petrol engine and also offers a CNG powertrain option. It delivers a mileage of up to 25.75 km/l with petrol and 32.85 km/kg with CNG.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
In FY 2025, a total of 1,67,161 new customers purchased the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, making it the third best-selling hatchback over the past year. The price of this hatchback starts at ₹6.70 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹9.37 lakh (ex-showroom).
In terms of features, the Baleno offers a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, keyless entry, and automatic climate control. For safety, it comes equipped with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), 3-point seatbelts, and rear parking sensors.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 was bought by 1,02,232 new customers in FY 2025. It is the most affordable car in the Indian market. The Alto K10 delivers a mileage of up to 24.90 kmpl with petrol and 33.85 km/kg with CNG.
The price starts from ₹4.23 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹6.21 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant. All variants now come with 6 airbags for safety.
Tata Tiago
This popular compact hatchback recorded 69,234 units sold in FY 2025. In the Indian market, it is available at a starting price of ₹5 lakh (ex-showroom).
