Toyota Vellfire Crosses 5,000 Sales, Becomes India’s Top Luxury Hybrid MPV
By CarVaidyaToyota Vellfire,
Toyota's flagship luxury hybrid MPV, has achieved a significant sales milestone
in India. The premium limousine-style MPV has crossed 5,000 unit sales in the
country over the last six years since its introduction.
According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, the
Toyota Vellfire surpassed cumulative sales of 5,000 units in April 2026.
Introduced in 2020 as Toyota's flagship people mover, the Vellfire quickly
gained popularity among affluent buyers who increasingly preferred it to high-end SUVs for its unmatched rear-seat comfort and luxury-focused
features.
More than half of the Vellfire's total sales have
been recorded in the last two years, indicating a strong shift in buyer
preference toward premium MPVs in India. Toyota further strengthened the
model's appeal in 2023 by launching the latest-generation Vellfire, featuring a completely redesigned exterior, improved cabin quality, and several advanced
technologies.
The Toyota Vellfire is
powered by a 2.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine that produces a combined
output of 193 hp and 240 Nm of torque. The powertrain is paired with an e-CVT
automatic transmission and delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.28 km/l,
which is highly impressive for a vehicle of this size and luxury level.
The Vellfire measures over 5 metres in length and features a wheelbase of approximately 3 metres, making it one of the most spacious luxury MPVs on sale in India. The generous cabin dimensions significantly enhance passenger comfort, especially for second-row occupants who enjoy a true executive lounge experience.
The Vellfire comes
equipped with a wide range of luxury and convenience features, including a
premium dual-tone dashboard with leather and wood trim, dual sunroofs, genuine
leather seats with memory foam, a detachable rear-seat control device, 3-lens
LED headlamps with DRLs, machine-finished alloy wheels, a 14-inch touchscreen
infotainment system, a head-up display, wireless smartphone connectivity and
charging, powered Ottoman second-row seats, and executive lounge-style captain
chairs in higher variants.
Safety is handled by six airbags, electronic
stability control, ABS with EBD, and Toyota's radar- and camera-based ADAS
suite. Additional safety systems include pre-collision warning, lane keeping
assist, and a rigid impact-absorbing body structure.
The Toyota Vellfire is
priced from around ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom), while top-spec variants can cost
up to ₹1.30 crore (ex-showroom). Its primary competitor in India is the
Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which also offers limousine-like comfort, a long
wheelbase, and an extensive list of premium features.
