Delhi Traffic Police provided the information

The Delhi Traffic Police has provided information that a total of 101,164 cases of Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) violations were recorded in the first four months of 2024. According to official figures from the Delhi Traffic Police, during the same four months last year, 78,169 fines were issued. This indicates an increase of more than 30 percent in the number of cases recorded this year compared to last year.

Where were the most fines issued?

A senior officer of the Delhi Traffic Police said, 'We have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the top 10 traffic circles, including Model Town, Karol Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh, and Tilak Nagar, where the most fines were issued in 2024.' He mentioned that the increase in violations highlights the ongoing challenge of vehicle pollution in the city, notorious for its hazardous levels of air pollution. The officer said, 'Through this extensive examination, areas where such traffic violations occur most frequently have been identified. By identifying these areas, targeted enforcement measures can be implemented to promote compliance with traffic regulations.' The Delhi Traffic Police stated that their goal is to cultivate a culture of adherence to emission standards among motorists through vigilant enforcement and implementation of PUCC regulations.

Pollution is caused by vehicles

A Delhi Traffic Police officer said, "The emissions from vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution in urban areas like Delhi. Therefore, it is necessary to take action against vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates to reduce adverse environmental impacts associated with uncontrolled emissions."

How much is the fine

If any vehicle is found on the road without a valid pollution certificate, it is a violation of Section 115 CMVR/190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act, for which a fine of up to 10,000 rupees can be imposed by the police.
